The Covington Parks and Recreation Committee

 was established in the winter of 1999 to plan the

 first Covington Finnish Music Festival, which

took place the following July. The overwhelming

 success of the festival rapidly led the committee

 to many more community events and projects

 which at that time included the “Annual Finnish

 Music Festival," which grew to such a big event,

 it was later taken over by the "Finnish Music

Alliance," which now plans, organizes and puts

 on the event. The committee designed and

constructed the community pavilion that

now houses the festival and many  artistic,

cultural, musical and social events, that continue

 to take place through out the year.



Ground breaking for the Pavilion was in the

spring of 2002 and the grand opening was on

July 4, 2003
